MONTREAL – Hugo Houle has agreed to a three-year extension of Astana’s contract, the Kazakh team confirmed Wednesday.
The28-year-old Quebébois will be wearing Astana’s colors until the conclusion of the 2022 season. He joined the formation in 2018.
“I made new friends and I like the atmosphere on the team,” said Houle. I feel very comfortable here and I feel that I have the support of the sporting director, the staff and my teammates. The last two years have passed very quickly, and I can not wait to continue my adventure with this team. ”
According to Astana, the cyclist from Sainte-Perpétue has shown “that he is a very good team player, always ready to support the leader in the classics of a day as well as for weeks during the great tours”. Astana’s managing director, Alexandr Vinokurov, also praised him.
“He has shown a very good progression for two years; he improved during the one-day classics and the stages of a grand tour, he said. I think he has the potential to become a good cyclist, who can get good results during short stages, for example. I’m glad he’s with us for another three years. ”
This season, Houle made a name for himself by finishing fifth in the overall ranking of the Arctic race in Norway. In 2018, he finished fourth in Tour Poitou-Charentes and eighth overall in the Tour du Danemark.
Houle will be competing next week at the Quebec City (September 13th) and Montreal (September 15th) cycling awards, the only one-day UCI WorldTour races in North America. He will then compete at the World Road Cycling Championships September 22-29 in Harrogate, UK.
