Federal elections triggered Wednesday

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will call the federal election on Wednesday morning.
Heis scheduled to travel to Rideau Hall at 10:00 am ET to ask Governor General Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament.

By law, polling day is set for October 21, but the Prime Minister has two weeks of leeway from September 1 to kick off the campaign.

The federal parties have been campaigning informally for weeks. Liberal ministers are increasing funding announcements as Conservative leader Andrew Scheer and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh tackle the Liberal record.

Recent polls suggest that the Liberals and Conservatives are neck and neck, but that they probably would not get a majority government if the elections were held immediately.
