Concert Voice for our time: the musical succession for the church of San Sebastian
For its annual benefit concert for the preservation of the village church, the San Sebastian Concerts Committee turned this year to three Sherbrooke artists, the soprano Paskale Raymond, the mezzo-soprano Mariana De Rosa and tenor Etienne Isabel, who hails from Nantes, near Lac-Megantic.
A ccompagnées the piano, these qualified voice “of our time” mission will be to charm the audience by interpreting some classic, but also music and French popular songs, that many should know and recognize.
“The offered repertoire will belong to all styles, with bossa-nova, popular opera, etc. “Says Michel Mercier, the head and spokesman of the San Sebastián Concerts Committee, a volunteer who has practically started being present from the beginning of the committee, in 2007.
“As for the church, we changed the heating method, from oil to electricity, during the concert for Lac-Mégantic in 2013. We do not receive a subsidy, we only have some diligent sponsors. We believe we have a good formula, mixing with the public and offering a reception after the concert, with a cheap buffet. ”
“This year’s concert proves that we also want to encourage young talent and emerging artists. We put on directories that we do not hear often. It is a heritage that can be discovered, but in French. I also insist on the excellent acoustics that we find in the church of San Sebastián for this kind of concert, “adds Michel Mercier.
Originally from Mexico, Mariana De la Rosa lives in Sherbrooke and attends the University of Sherbrooke. Paskale Raymond, for his part, acts as a singing coach and choirmaster in Sherbrooke.
