13 drivers pinched in 90 minutes
An hour and a half was enough to police the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) to pinch several motorists at the foot too heavy on the accelerator.
OnTuesday, a team of four SQ police officers from the Val-Saint-François RCM station conducted an operation on Route 222, between Saint-Denis-de-Brompton and Racine.
The operation aimed at road users with behaviors likely to cause collisions or to be injured in the event of a collision was conducted between 6.30am and 8am. The police intervened with 13 drivers in violation, according to Aurélie Guindon, spokesperson of the SQ.
“Of these, 11 received reports of traveling at speeds above the 90 km / h limit, with speeds ranging from around 120 to 130 km / h,” he says.
“The offender caught at the highest speed received a finding of $ 288 and three demerit points.”
A driver also received a statement of $ 486 for driving with a vehicle whose registration fees were unpaid, adds Ms. Guindon. Another driver received a report of $ 170 and two demerit points for following a vehicle too closely.
“Other similar operations are to be expected. The Sûreté du Québec points out that speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads, “she continues.
“If every driver reduced their average speed by 5 km / h, the number of injuries and deaths on our roads would decrease by 15%.”
